Surge capacitors CHDSU
Protection for motor and transformer windings
Steep fronted waves (lightning or switching surges) can cause damage to the turn-to-turn insulation of rotary machines and transformers.
Hitachi Energy surge capacitors provide premium surge protection for high voltage motors and generators. For a more comprehensive protection scheme, surge capacitors may be used in conjunction with surge arresters.
Applications:
Protection of motor windings
Protection of transformer windings
Power: 0.1 to 1.0 µF (typical values: 0.13, 0.25, 0.5 µF)
Voltage range: 1-24 kV
Frequency: 50-60 Hz
Bushings: 1.2 (single-phase) or 3 (three-phase)
Dielectric: Polypropylene film
Impregnant: Non-PCB
Discharge resistors: Built-in
Operating temperature: -50/+60°C
Location: Indoor or outdoor

Surge Capacitor for AC Rotation Machine
Power apparatus is continuously subjected to abnormal voltages due to internal or external reasons. These may occur on account of lightening, switching operations, system faults and other abnormal conditions. SC1000 surge capacitors are capable of bringing down the steepness or slope of over voltage transients, that may appear across transformer and other AC line connected equipment. Unless the transients are dampened effectively they may cause catastrophic failure of these devices. The level gets truncated before operating across the insulation of a device by reducing the slope of incoming surge with conventional arresters fitted in conjunction with surge capacitors. The SC1000 surge capacitors must be designed to withstand and absorb damped or oscillatory line disturbance at the point of common coupling.

Motor Surge Protection MSP
Limiting the turn-to-turn insulation stress imposed on the device being protected

The motor surge protection bank (MSP) provides protection against insulation failure for motors, other rotating machines, and dry-type transformers. This yields assurance of continuous operation of the equipment, the electrical system and the manufacturing process.
The primary function of the MSP motor surge protection bank is to guard the winding insulation of the device being protected. Station class, and metal oxide lightning arresters act to limit the maximum voltage to the device, at a predetermined magnitude. Specially designed surge capacitors, connected in parallel with the arresters, control the rate of rise of the resultant overvoltage. The combination of surge arresters and surge capacitors serve to limit the turn-to-turn insulation stress on the device being protected.
Applications
High voltage motors and generators
Dry-type transformers
Motor control centers
Medium-voltage switchgear
Voltage range: 1-24 kV
Enclosure: NEMA 3R
Temperature range: -50°C-60°C
Impregnant: Non-PCB
Discharge time: 5 minutes

The WC1000 water cooled capacitors are designed for very high levels of safety, reliability and life expectancy. Capacitors are provided with high thermal conductivity copper tubes, through which cooling water is circulated. The effective dissipation of heat by this method is extremely important to achieve desired performance and life expectancy levels. The WC1000 water-cooled capacitors are generally enclosed in aluminum cases so as to avoid heating due to magnetic fields. Thus the capacitors run much cooler compared to those of conventional design. Their expected life is also longer. In the dead case construction the current returns through water-cooling terminals instead of through the capacitor case. This leads to longer capacitor life since less heat is generated in the case and absorbed by dielectric fluid. This construction permits, capacitor mounting directly to the chassis without insulators, permitting savings in installation expenses. Thermal, electrical and over pressure protection can be provided on specific request.
